Dear Students and Parents,
We are excited that our website is back up and running. Thank you for being patient with the district staff as we continue to improve our site. We hope the new website will be user friendly and provide useful information for SMS families.
We are off to a fast and successful start to the school year and we hope to build upon our student successes. Through a student led effort, we will begin to focus on ways in which we can promote living and participating in Sullivan Middle School life. The student led Principal's Advisory Group will be sending out a student generated survey to both teachers and students prior to the end of the first semester. The survey's purpose is to gauge interest in creating student groups and clubs focusing on multiple facets of a middle school student's life. Our goal is to have every student actively involved in Sullivan Middle School, and we will be working to provide more opportunities that allow students to actively participate in the Sullivan Middle School life.
Sullivan Middle School continues to promote high expectations for all students. Each and every one of our students has been gifted talents, and it is our students that make up who we are at Sullivan Middle School. We hope to continue to work with students to build upon and improve skills in order to meet the demands of the 21st century. We will continue to celebrate our student successes and seeks ways to build upon the talents our students have been gifted.
The teaching faculty at SMS continues to work through the process of aligning our curriculum to the Common Core Standards. By the close of the 2011-12 school year, each department will begin to implement key elements of the Common Core Standards. The 2011-12 School Improvement Plan includes goals that focus on aligning our curriculum to the Common Core Standards, implementing problem solving lesson planning across all content areas, incorporating Reading Standards for Informational Text literacy strategies across all content areas, and continued work on improving our PBIS and RTI efforts at Sullivan Middle School. We hope to continue to meet the demands or the current best practices in education by ensuring that every student is college and career ready when they leave our district.
We are quickly approaching the end of the first semester (December 21) and the Christmas Holiday Break, which means spring and ISAT’s are right around the corner. We are off to a great start so far, and we are looking forward to even more successes for the remainder of the school year and in the future. Thank you for a wonderful partnership and we look forward to continued success in the future. Go Redskins!
Thank you,
Jerry Calandrilla, Principal
