Introduction:
This activity is designed to provide data on students’ current writing ability for the Goals 2000 project.
This project meets the following Illinois State Learning Standards:
3.A.3, 3.B.3b, 3.C.3a, 3.C.3b, 1.B.3d, 1.C.3a, 1.C.3d, 5.B.3a
The Task:
Access the web sites listed in the resource section, and carefully read them. You may take notes if you wish.
Imagine the U.S. government is minting a new five-dollar coin: you are a member of a committee whose job is to decide whose picture should be on the coin. In a written composition decide which one of the people in the articles should be chosen for the new five-dollar coin.
The Process:
You will have one class period to read the material and take notes. You will have up to one additional class period to write your composition. All work must be completed during class time. Do your best work.
How You Will Be Graded:
Compositions will be assessed according to ISAT standards.
